THE sudden death of a much-loved teacher has sent a Melbourne school into mourning.

Satya Nadan collapsed in front of Berwick College students on Thursday afternoon.

The Department of Education confirmed the tragic incident and the school issued a statement to its community.

Mr Nadan, 60, was a loved maths teacher who had been with the school for more than 17 years.

It is understood Mr Nadan died after a medical episode.

In a letter to parents, principal Kerri Bolch said the teacher’s passing had rocked the school community.

“It is with sadness that I write to inform you of the death of a much loved staff member,” she said.

“We have passed on our condolences to the family and will do all we can to support them.”

Social media was quickly flooded with condolence messages from past and current students.

“Rest in peace Mr Nadan. You were such a wonderful, happy man and such a support to many people. You will always be missed. Fly high,” wrote one student.

Another shared how Mr Nadan was “such a good maths teacher”.

“Couldn’t imagine what those students are going through, witnessing it. Rest In Peace.”

Other students said how Mr Nadan was “one of the greatest teachers” they’d ever have.

Parents said how the “talented teacher had a very calming nature in teaching the kids with a lot of patience”.

Ms Bolch said a range of support services and counselling would be provided to students, if they required it.

“Please be assured that every effort will be made to support your child at school,” she said.

“Teachers, wellbeing team and Department of Education counsellors are available at the school to talk with yourself or any students that need additional support.”
