SHOCKING footage emerged this week showing a shot-pouring barmaid attacking a woman for apparently slapping her bum.

The altercation begins when the female patron interrupts the woman mid-routine, during a bizarre tradition involving cinnamon whisky, slaps, and "motor-boating".

The video was posted to Twitter, and appears to have taken place in Spirits on Bourbon in New Orleans.

During the video a barmaid in split red latex trousers, a red T-shirt and sunglasses is mid-pour when the other woman appears to slap her behind.

The staff member turns around angrily and appears to strike the patron three times before a man intervenes.

The punched woman, visibly shocked, is ushered out of the bar and the waitress returns to her routine.

The bizarre routine, apparently a tradition in the bar, involves intermittently slapping a punter in a revolving barber chair, pouring liquor in their mouth, and rubbing her breasts in their face.

The man in the chair - believed to be the poster, Tyler Gamble - looks bemused by the assault.

The post caption reads: "Just wanted a shot of fireball."

The Spirits on Bourbon website says a visit "isn’t complete without a shot on Edward’s Barber Chair!"

The chair apparently belonged to former-owner Edward DeBoire, who the website says died age 33 - largely due to "the free flowing drinks and beautiful Creole ladies".

The website reads: "It is said that his spirit enjoys our bar. In fact, what is now our stage was where his barber chair stood.

"It was clear when the stage was erected that Edward did not appreciate having his barber chair removed.

"To pacify him, we added the Barber Chair to pay homage to Edward in a fun way, that we thought he would appreciate."
