Apple Says iCloud China Data Migration Was Sent To Some Users In Error

The new email from Apple clarifies that only the iCloud accounts with the region set to China will have their data migrated to GCBD servers. Interestingly enough, the email has confirmed that the company will be moving only those iCloud accounts to the Chinese server which have their Apple ID set as China. In this regard, if you do not want your iCloud data to be migrated to the Chinese servers, you can change the location of your Apple ID.

The company has begun migrating the data of its iCloud users living in China from the U.S. servers to a Chinese company’s servers. The Chinese company’s servers are located in China. The main purpose of the migration of iCloud data to Chinese servers is to ensure the agreement with the regulations if the Chinese government. The Chinese government has made it a mandatory for every cloud service operator in the region to store their customer’s data in servers hosted in the country.

Apple is the very first major U.S company which have started transitioning the data of its Chinese customers to the host servers in China. Other companies that have operations on cloud servers from the United States will also migrate the data to Chinese servers in China. There were many concerns regarding the privacy of users as well.

Apple in this regard has affirmed its users in a statement that it will continue to emphasize on user privacy and the data stored on GCBD servers in China will feature the same level of encryption as used by the servers in the United States.
