US PRESIDENT Donald Trump has broken his silence on former White House aide and Apprentice contestant Omarosa Manigault Newman, blasting her as “wacky” and claiming she “begged” him for a job.

Mr Trump, who lashed out on Twitter, called the former staff member a “low-life” and claimed she was “hated” by her colleagues in the West Wing.

Ms Manigault Newman, touting a tell-all book about her time in the White House titled Unhinged, was interviewed on NBC’s Meet the Press on Sunday, where she revealed she taped White House Chief of Staff John Kelly firing her. She then called Mr Trump unfit to serve as president, the New York Post reported.

She added that she had been “complicit with this White House in deceiving this nation.”
“They continue to deceive this nation by how mentally declined he is, about how difficult it is for him to process complex information, how he is not engaged in some of the most important decisions that impacts our country,” she said on NBC.

She also confirmed that she had heard Mr Trump on tape using the N-word while filming The Apprentice.

“I have heard the tape,” she said, adding that three sources she talked to for her book relayed the same story.

But the incident isn’t in her book because she didn’t hear the tape until after it was published.

She said Mr Trump’s use of the racist slur opened her eyes about him.

“I have heard for two years that it existed and once I heard it for myself it confirmed what I feared the most: that Donald Trump is a con and has been masquerading as someone who is actually open to engaging with diverse communities,” Ms Manigault Newman said.

“But when he talks that way, the way he did on this tape, it confirms that he is truly a racist.”

And although she says he never used the N-word in her presence, she suggested he may have made similar comments about her when she was out of earshot.

“Because Donald Trump talks about everyone behind their backs. You leave the room and he probably has a nickname for you,” she said.

“There’s a nickname for everyone in his administration and his circles.”

Mr Trump called her a “low-life” on Twitter to his millions of followers, despite admitting it was “not presidential” to do so.
