In 1997, the countries in the world have agreed to end the terror of landmines bombs through the Ottawa Convention. As one who rejected the deal 20 years ago, now the United States has decided to mensetop production of landmines. What makes the U.S. changed his mind?

And now the U.S. has an abundant supply of land mines, up to 3 million units ready-made land mines, as reported by The Associated Press (27/6).

It turns out it turns over 20 years ago, the U.S. gradually reduce their dependence on land mines, and leaving only the stock is placed in South Korea. Representative pentagon states if stock is used in case when North Korea invaded South Korea.

In the era of president George W. Bush, the U.S. has actually made landmines with new technology that can blow themselves after activated for 5 days. The technology is deliberately applied to reduce civilian casualties from accidentally stepping on a mine which is actually intended to turn heavy weapons such as tanks.

But in reality there are many casualties due to landmines US-made. Moreover, to date landmines have killed nearly 20,000 people of which 80 percent were civilians. This figure does not include the thousands of people who experience disability as a result of landmines bombs.

Quoted from ABC News (27/6), President Obama finally agreed to join the 161 countries that are members of the Ottawa Convention. On the other hand, this policy was opposed by opposition parties who said that if the Obama policy does not heed the opinion of U.S. military leaders who still want to use landmines.
