A fan from the United States deployed the flag of Russia on the rostrum at the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in South Korean Pyeongchang, RT reports.

According to RT, the American name is Filip Vahuda, he came from Oakland and unimpededly carried the Russian tricolor with the image of an eagle and the inscription "Russia", and then unfolded it in the stands.

"I want to support Russia because she was not allowed to send many strong athletes, such as Victor An and Anton Shipulin, to the Olympics, and I believe that they should have performed here," said the RT American.

The opening ceremony of the Games-2018 was held on Friday. By the decision of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) of December 5, 2017 only "clean" Russian athletes are allowed to perform at the Games-2018 in the status of an "Olympic athlete from Russia" (OAR) under the Olympic flag. Russian athletes had the opportunity to go to the Games only after receiving an invitation from the IOC special commission for admission.

IOC prohibits carrying flags of countries that do not take part in the Olympics to the stands. Thus, in Phenchhane, the Russian flag is banned because Russian athletes in the 2018 Games have the status of "Olympic athletes from Russia" and act under the Olympic flag.
