BEER, bratwurst and Bavarians will be on show when Oktoberfest takes over the Wayville Showgrounds on Saturday, October 5.

The traditional German festival, celebrated around the world, will feature a massive German beer hall, which seats over 6000. You can try German beer, wine and ciders and German and local entertainers will be on stage until 9pm.

Partygoers can also enjoy a dance with 500 others at a silent disco and performers will roam the grounds all day.

Traditional Oktoberfest games include stein holdings, bratwurst eating competitions and prizes for Miss and Mr Oktoberfest. Lederhosen are de rigueur for Oktober blokes.

Henning Klovekorn has been MC for the Adelaide Oktoberfest since 2016.

“I love it, it’s one of the best things to do,” he said.

“I always like to remind people that Adelaide has a great German heritage. It was named after a German queen and so many Hills towns have German links.”

Mr Klovekorn said his favourite Oktoberfest game is the strongarm competition, where 10 men and 10 women compete to see who can hold up a 500ml crystal beer stein the longest.

“In the past two years, the females have beaten the males,” he said.
