Adelaide driver fined for transporting wardrobe in boot and using clothes as rope
An unlicensed Adelaide driver has been fined for trying to move a wardrobe in the back of his car.
The Holden Commodore was pulled over by police on Marion Road in Mitchell Park at 12:45am this morning.
The wardrobe appeared to be secured in the boot by clothing items tied together to form ropes.
Police issued the 55-year-old Dover Gardens driver with a $1,485 fine for loading offences and obscuring his registration plate.
Checks revealed the male driver was also unlicensed.
Police fined a separate man for a similar furniture-related incident in 2015.
They said most accidents stemming from wrongly secured loads happened at low speeds and often after only a short distance.
Ropes were extremely ineffective for restraining loads, they said.
Last month, an Adelaide man has been issued with a caution and a fine for modifications to his car, including a solar panel on the bonnet and gas bottle attached to the rear spare tyre.
And in 2013, another was caught using vice grips instead of a steering wheel to drive a car.
