IT was a ripper of a day out on the water for Tasmanian Scott Lowther and Nhulunbuy resident Anthony Bergamo who had to vie for their catch with a 3m croc.

Under perfect conditions the mates were pulling in fish after fish and a smart thinking croc took the opportunity to take their catches while they reeled them in.

In an hour and half they caught 90 fish at Buckingham Bay a remote area about 160km west of Nhulunbuy.

Mr Bergamo the owner of East Arnhem Fishing Adventures posted a video of the croc lunging for a barra to the businesses Instagram page.

Mr Lowther, who hooked the 55cm fish can’t believe what’s happening as he quickly winds in the line.

“F*ck me,” he says as the croc lunges out of the air after the barramundi.

The hungry croc had stealthily taken two fish earlier that day but became aggressive when it attempted to get a third.

Mr Bergamo said he couldn’t blame he croc as he was fishing in its habitat.

“We’re in his territory so I’ve got no qualms of him doing that to us there’s not enough of them around over here,” he said.

Mr Bergamo said during the four day fishing trip they also saw a manta ray jumping and feeding in the shallows.
