Country Ban: The Brightest Idea?
Hello every one and I hope you are enjoying your time. Just saw that many users are pissed because of the country bans that the trackers have and sometimes they might want to go around it and my answer to them was always: Dont Bother
From my own humble opinion, banning an entire country is not a smart move from the trackers staff especially countries with large populations such as India, Egypt, Romania and Brazil. Even if those countries have lots of bad users who cheat or trade, lets remember one thing and that is trackers are based on donations and some of those donations are profits and will eventually end up in the pockets of Sysops right?
As a simple example:
1. lets assume a tracker with 20,000 user base
2. 1000 users are from a banned country
3. only 10% of the users donate the Minimum donation required for a tracker and lets say that is $5
4. 100 X 5 = $500
The $500 are more than enough for any tracker to cover their server cost, domain cost etc. and to achieve a profit as well from any remaining amount which I assume will be alot.
Now does the benefit outweigh the cost?
My answer would be yes as all profits end up in the sysops pockets anyways. The mods and admins will have to deal with bad users through bans and warns and in most cases I believe that admins and mods provide their work for free and do not get paid for their services. In addition achieving that much revenue from the banned countries donations definitely outweighs the cost of dealing with every single bad user.
now the 1000 member from a banned country is only an assumption though. It could be less or more than that and in a lot of trackers, some countries constitute a considerable portion of the tracker user base. For e.g both Egypt and Romania represent a large user base of many trackers due to the high population of these countries, so imagine the profit if users were allowed and they made a donation. A tracker can cover a month of costs and add profits from a banned country's donation alone
Thats all folks. This is just my opinion and these are my assumptions only. They don not represent any facts. If you have something to say feel free to share here
cheers

I agree with you rayden, but, as we all know, most of them ban high-risk countries not only for having a high amount of cheaters, but also based on the piracy laws of said countries.
Their goals are simple - To have and maintain a high level of efficiency, active community (typically only allow a couple of languages in the forums), profit (if possible), and, above all, SURVIVE.
If the going gets tough and they aren't making enough through donations to keep their tracker afloat, then I would expect them to release all country bans as a last-ditch effort to live on.

you are completely right
not because of some bad users in a specific country, you ban all the country
but actually mate, there is another problem, I will speak about my country
here the highest internet speed doesnot exceed 16 Mb/sec and It costs alot of money as well
the common speed is 1 Mb/sec - how can you survive with this speed at HD tracker?!!
its a damn problem in the government itself and thats why many users will be forced to maintain a good ratio at these trackers
and by their speed, its kinda impossible. thats why they will search for any illegal way to solve this problem.
about the donation, I will speak about my country too
paypal is the only way for donation and coz our country in among the developing contries not the developed so It was banned too
2 or 3 months ago, paypal raised the ban and we are able to make accounts there but only sending money not recieving
anyway, I think the coming days will bring a good news especially after our successful revulotion

And about Romania, as i mentioned a couple of times before, we have the highest average internet speed in the whole world for home users, but not in all areas...in some metropolitan areas there are speeds up to 1000 Mb/s (prices ranging from 10 euros per gigabit connection monthly in district 2 in Bucharest, up to 100 euros per month in another district in Bucharest, that's my provider's offer and it sucks compared to the one in district 2, that's why i have 100 Mb/s connection instead of 1 Gbps), in other areas such as the mountains, just a couple of Mb/s.There are huge variations. As for me, like i said, i have no problem whatsoever to keep a decent ratio, while i was at GFT i have uploaded some torrents with speeds up to 11 MB/s building a buffer over 100 GB in a couple of days! The real issue here is the decissions trackers take, let's say "ohhh...we're fast at pretimes, we're 1337, why would we allow those "punks" to giveaway invites for our tracker in public?" And here's the answer why: nobody cares about pretimes these days,it's way too over rated, your content isn't unique and it can be easy to find publicly during the same day.The only thing a "1337" tracker has is great download speed...and i'm not so sure about upload speed...i usually like to download a torrent and to reach a 1/1 ratio or higher on it during the same day or the least during the same week. For me, all these gazelle trackers are nothing but 1337 dumps, nothing more, nothing less. And about their collaborations, that global bann thing...please, give me a break and spare me with all that bs already...stop acting like scene...you're not scene...you're p2p, stealing pay2leech from scene axx...anyone with a few connections and "half deep pockets" can do that...and at this point, i can't think of more reasons why your "1337" tracker isn't actually worth a dime...just sayin'...

my country, Portugal is on the ban list at revolutiontt since 2009, i used to be a user and donor on revott, had great ratio...
but forgot to park the account when i went on a 6 month sabbatical holiday... tried to get my account back but was like
talking to a wall. Guess that they donīt value good users. my lost maybe, now iīm a big donor on torrentleech! I think they
lost more than i did.
-
RevoTT's staff is one of the most hilarious staffs i have ever encountered...Even though at that time i was showing them proof of my seedbox still seeding their crappy torrents after my account got disabled, they were still saying that i was using some sort of ratio cheat tool.LOL!

Ya justseed.it is awesome
