The Shohei Ohtani sweepstakes took another turn Sunday, when the Japanese star cut his list of suitors, according to Yahoo Sports.

The report stated that Ohtani, who has until December 22 to pick an MLB team, eliminated the Yankees from contention, sighting a move to the West Coast or a small-market team. The Giants and Mariners are among the finalists.

Yankees general manager Brian Cashman all but confirmed, via MLB.com, that the Yankees were out of the running by stating that Ohtani’s reps had a positive reaction to New York's presentation but that the Yankees are not what Ohtani is looking for.

While Ohtani works through choosing his team, trade rumors are picking up regarding NL MVP Giancarlo Stanton. According to MLB Network, both the Giants and Cardinals have agreed in principle to deals with the Marlins, and now it's up to Stanton to waive his no-trade clause.

The Giants finished last season tied for the worst record in MLB, but they might get both Ohtani and Stanton this offseason to help them get back into World Series contention.
