There have been lot of calls for England to inject pace into their bowling attack to give them variety. Mark Wood has probably made a case for himself with a brilliant spell of bowling just before Tea to put England on top of the third Test at St. Lucia. England, who were already on the back foot when the session began, after getting dismissed for just 277, made a strong comeback removing five Windies batsman for just 74 at the break.

Windies actually had a pretty good start when the session began as their openers put on 57 for the opening wicket. While Kraigg Brathwaite was at his usual-cautious self, John Campbell was the aggressor picking up regular boundaries. Joe Root brought on spin in the form of Moeen Ali to break the stand and the move paid dividends. In an uncharacteristic manner, Brathwaite took on the offspinner and found the only fielder stationed in the deep. Off the very next ball, Moeen struck again trapping Campbell leg-before-wicket with a delivery that straightened a touch after pitching.

Two overs later, it was all Mark Wood. Bowling with venom, Wood struck in his first over, getting rid of Shai Hope and Roston Chase with back-to-back deliveries. While Hope played a loose shot well outside off to edge the ball to gully, Chase couldn't handle the heat with the ball bouncing a tad extra at great pace to take the edge, again to the gully fielder.

The onus was on Darren Bravo and Shimron Hetmyer to resurrect the innings but Wood struck again in the final over before the break. Once again, extra bounce combined with sheer raw pace did the trick as Hetmyer edged behind to first slip. Suddenly, that total of 277 looks good enough to fetch a consolation win.

Brief scores: Windies 74/5 (John Campbell 41; Mark Wood 3-12, Moeen Ali 2-11) trail England 277 by 203 runs
