Who impressed

Scott Lycett

The ruckman stood up admirably on a trying day that included copping a blow to the face from teammate Jack Redden. Lycett took over after Paddy Ryder went down, dominating in the air and providing the scrappy kick forward that led to the match-winner.

Luke Shuey
Port fans in Adelaide got their first look at Shuey since his after-the-siren heroics in last year’s elimination final. And they got more and more looks as the match wore on, with Shuey producing a huge second half to finish with 31 touches and a huge 11 clearances.

Tom Jonas
The unassuming defender marshalled Port’s defence in one of the best games of his career en route to 30 possessions and 13 grabs. Ultimately, the weight of numbers coming into the Power’s defensive 50m zone proved too much.

Elliot Yeo
The All-Australian candidate was one of the few Eagles to get going early, booting an impressive long-range major for West Coast’s sole score of the first term. He finished with 25 touches and ran all day long to give his side a chance for its famous win.

Liam Ryan
It’s not how you start, but how you finish. Ryan battled for three quarters, including suffering an ankle knock, before bursting to life in the final term. Ryan completed one of the marks of the season and booted a crucial goal to ignite the visitors.

Jeremy McGovern
See above. The intercept marking king took a few nice plucks, but was made accountable by Port youngster Aidyn Johnson. McGovern couldn’t find the space to make his usual impact in the defensive half before swinging forward late. The best way to turn around a tough day? Kick the match-winning goal, of course.

Who didn’t

Robbie Gray

Gray started hot, and his numbers of 18 possessions to go with two majors were far from frightful. But the X-factor had two set-shot chances to ice the game late in the piece and shanked them both, keeping the door open for the Eagles.

Jack Darling
The star forward just never really got going on a tough day, though a couple of late involvements proved pivotal. Darling finished goalless for just the fourth time in complete games this season.
