FREMANTLE handed Cam McCarthy a potential lifeline by including the out-of-favour forward on an extended eight-man bench for Sunday’s home clash with Port Adelaide.

Youngster Andrew Brayshaw (groin) was the only confirmed out from the 22 which was belted by Melbourne in Darwin last weekend.

McCarthy, who has not been seen since round 11, was added to the bench along with Scott Jones, Cam Sutcliffe, Ryan Nyhuis and Taylin Duman.

The Dockers could add defender when they confirm their 22 on Friday and shift impressive first-year player Adam Cerra into the midfield to replace Brayshaw.

The Power named Jack Hombsch in their 18 to replace injured defender Tom Jonas, with Sam Gray, Karl Amon, Jarrod Lienert and Kane Farrell added to the extended bench.

Fremantle utility Michael Apeness, who has been handed a one-year contract extension for next season, was named at full-forward and is likely to again back-up Sean Darcy in the ruck.

Apeness, 23, has endured a torrid injury history but has broken into the team to play the past five games.

“I’ve obviously had a few injuries over my first couple of years but it’s great to be playing footy in the seniors at the moment and I’m glad the club signed me on,” he said.
