Wayne Rooney arrest disappoints Everton boss Ronald Koeman
Ronald Koeman says he is "very disappointed" in Wayne Rooney following the player's arrest for drink driving but the former England captain will feature against Tottenham on Saturday.
The 31-year-old has been charged with drink driving after he was stopped by police at around 2am last Friday. Sky Sports News understands that no club fines or punishment are likely before the legal process is complete.
Rooney was back at Everton's Finch Farm training ground on Tuesday morning, as the players and manager returned following the international break, and following talks with Koeman, the former Manchester United striker will be involved this weekend.
"Obviously I am very disappointed by the situation regarding Wayne Rooney," Koeman said in his pre-match press conference.
"We have spoken last Tuesday and the chairman Bill Kenwright spoke also to Wayne about this situation. In line with any disciplinary matter this will be dealt internally by the club at the appropriate time."
Koeman added: "He will play this Saturday yes. If I see that Wayne is not in conditions, physically or mentally, to play then he will not play."
Rooney is due to appear at Stockport Magistrates Court on September 18.
The forward re-joined Everton this summer after 13 years at Old Trafford and recently announced his retirement from international football, partly so he could focus on his club form.
