Western Bulldogs defender Marcus Adams’ hopes of joining Brisbane have already hit a roadblock.

The WA product, who told the Bulldogs he wanted a “fresh start” at the Lions over the weekend, has two more years to run on his current contract.

And the club’s list manager Sam Power said they were unlikely to entertain a trade for Adams while he’s still contracted.

“Marcus signalled his intention over the weekend that he would like a fresh start at Brisbane,” Power said.

“From our end, Marcus has got two more years on a contract so he’s a required player at the Western Bulldogs.

“We’ll hold him to the contract, he’s a required player.”

It was only a couple of months ago that Adams, who was drafted from WAFL club West Perth in 2015, was rumoured to be considering a return to his home state.

Adams signed a three-year contract in May last year but conceded the lure of home won’t ever go away.

The 25-year-old has played 27 matches in three seasons at the Bulldogs, but only six this year.

He missed the club’s drought-breaking premiership in 2016 due to a serious foot injury.

More to come.
