Cruz, who was released by the Giants on Feb. 13, had two seasons left on his contract with New York and was set to count $9.4 million against the salary cap in 2017. The team also released Rashad Jennings, their leading rusher in 2016, to save $10 million of cap space by dropping the two contracts.

Cruz, 30, spent his entire seven-year NFL career in New York after going undrafted out of UMass in 2010. He emerged as a star wideout during the 2011 season before continuing his success on the field in 2012.

However, he was derailed in 2014 when he suffered a torn patellar tendon in his knee and missed the entire 2015 season after suffering a calf injury while rehabbing his knee.
