Veteran Docker Danyle Pearce has accepted a job outside of football, with his retirement from the AFL imminent.

The 258-game veteran, who started his career at Port Adelaide before heading west in after the 2012 season, has added just three AFL appearances this year.

Former Port Adelaide and North Melbourne livewire Daniel Motlop, who is General Manager of gin-producing company Something Wild Beverages, revealed the news of his ex-teammate’s job on social media.

“Excited to announce Danyle Pearce will be joining the Something Wild team as State Manager of SA and WA,” Motlop posted on LinkedIn.

“Danyle’s role will also support our harvesters to help create sustainable jobs and small businesses for Aboriginal people in SA and WA.”

The 32-year-old is set to become the second Docker to retire this year, with defender Lee Spurr pulling the pin last week after battling a long-term knee injury.

Fellow backman Michael Johnson, 33, is another unlikely to play on next season.

Ruck warrior Aaron Sandilands’ future is also up in the air, with the 35-year-old sidelined since round 13 with a calf injury.

Fremantle coach Ross Lyon last month hinted at a farewell match for both Johnson and Pearce in the final game of the season against Collingwood at Optus Stadium on August 25.

“I think it is pretty obvious they are going to exit,” Lyon said last month.

“We did it (a farewell match) for Matthew Pavlich. They have been incredibly good servants for the club. Michael Johnson you could argue is our greatest Aboriginal player.”

Despite not being able to break into the senior side since getting dropped after Fremantle’s round 10 loss to North Melbourne, Pearce has been a valuable contributor the club’s affiliate Peel Thunder.

The 2017 WAFL premiership midfielder has averaged a touch under 30 disposals this season to go with 4.5 marks and three tackles.

The Thunder will need to beat fifth-placed Claremont at Claremont Oval on Saturday to keep their hopes of a hat-trick of flags alive.

Highlights of Pearce’s career include winning the AFL rising star in 2006 and featuring in Fremantle’s grand final loss to Hawthorn in 2013.
