USMAN Khawaja led Australia A by example on Sunday night, as his teammates crumbled around him to achieve an embarrassing feat.

Half of Khawaja’s teammates were dismissed without scoring during the first four-day match against India A at Bengaluru.

Captain Mitchell Marsh and bowlers Chris Tremain and Brendan Doggett were all gone for naught, while batsman Peter Handscomb and swing specialist Michael Neser made golden ducks.

Only four batsmen made more than five runs.

Test batsman Khawaja was one of them, opening the batting and piling on 127 runs off 228 balls.

He was the last wicket of the innings, which saw the visitors bowled out for 243.

Khawaja was caught behind off the bowling of paceman Mohammed Siraj, who took stunning figures of 8-59.

Fellow Queenslander Marnus Labuschagne built a 114-run partnership with Khawaja, before being dismissed for 60 off 105 balls.

New South Wales’ Kurtis Patterson was the only other batsman to make more than 15 runs. His 31 off 69 contributed to a 78-run opening stand with the Queensland captain.

India A made it to 0-41 at stumps, leaving it trailing by 202 runs.
