NORTH Melbourne has secured both Jared Polec and Jasper Pittard on Wednesday, having successfully negotiated a trade with Port Adelaide.

The Kangaroos sent pick No.11 and a future fourth-round selection to the Power in exchange for the duo, acquiring this year's pick No.48 from Port.

It's believed the later picks were integral to the deal being completed, with North Melbourne requiring pick No.48 to gather draft points to match any Academy bid on Tarryn Thomas and a father-son bid on Bailey Scott.

North footy boss Cameron Joyce said the club was delighted with the acquisition.

"Jared has been an outstanding player and is coming off a career-best year," Joyce told North Media.

"He will no doubt add a tremendous amount of run and class to our list, playing in the midfield and on a wing."

Port Adelaide then requested a later selection in next year's draft, with father-son prospects Trent Burgoyne (son of Peter) and Mitchell and Jackson Mead (sons of Darren) set to be available to the Power in 2019.

North Melbourne had long been courting talented wingman Polec, who requested a trade to Arden Street almost a month ago, with defender Pittard also included in the deal.
