If you want to see a crazy passage of play that sums up Essendon’s start to the season, this is the one to watch.

The Bombers were expected to come out breathing fire against St Kilda following their smashing at the hands of GWS last week.

But Essendon’s start was anything but ferocious, conceding the first four goals to the lowly Saints on the way to a 22-point half-time deficit.

Among the numerous clangers was a mistake of epic proportions by Dons duo Matt Guelfi and Kyle Langford late in the first term.

With the ball in dispute near the interchange gates, both Essendon players opted to leave the footy to the St Kilda players in the immediate vicinity, leading to an uncontested inside 50.

The Bombers will have a lot of questions to answer early in the season, but why those two players turned their back on the footy may be one of the harder ones to explain.
