Truck title contender John Hunter Nemechek penalized for N.H. infraction
John Hunter Nemechek has been penalized with the loss of 10 driver and owner points for failing post-race height inspection following last weekend’s Camping World Truck Series race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.
Nemechek’s crew chief Gene Kennon was fined $6,000 and his probation continues through Dec. 31.
Nemechek is one of eight drivers in the series’ first Chase championship battle. He was fourth after the initial race at New Hampshire, 22 points behind leader William Byron. He is now seventh of the eight drivers.
The series races this weekend at Las Vegas Motor Speedway for the second of three races in the elimination format. The final race of this segment is Oct. 22 at Talladega Superspeedway.
According to ESPN, Nemechek's team has not decided on whether or not to appeal the penalty.
In another Truck series penalty, Travis Kvapil’s truck team was penalized with the loss of 15 minutes practice time and a written warning for failing template inspection four times in prerace inspection.
In the Cup ranks, Regan Smith’s team was given a written warning for failing the Laser Inspection Station twice in prerace. The team’s of Kevin Harvick, Kasey Kahne, Greg Biffle and Matt DiBenedetto were also given written warning for failing the LIS twice prior to qualifying. Denny Hamlin’s team was also given a written warning for failing the template inspection twice prior to qualifying.
In the Xfinity Series, the Joe Gibbs Racing No. 18 team (this week featuring driver Kyle Busch) and Jeremy Clements’ team were given written warning for failing the LIS twice in pre-race inspection.
