Scunthorpe United star Niall Canavan is set to agree a new deal with the club, Sky Sports understands.

The 23-year-old defender is due to be out-of-contract at Glanford Park this summer, and it is understood a number of Championship and League One clubs had been monitoring his situation.

But Canavan - who played a major role in Scunthorpe's promotion campaign - is set to commit his future to the Lincolnshire outfit by putting pen-to-paper on a new two-year deal.

Former Republic of Ireland Under-21 international Canavan, who come through the youth ranks at Scunthorpe and has played over 100 games for The Iron.
