HAYDEN Young, a potential top pick in next year's NAB AFL Draft, has been awarded the 2018 Jack Collins-Alan Schwab AFL Life Members scholarship.

The 17-year-old follows a line of impressive young talents, including NAB AFL Rising Star winner Jaidyn Stephenson, Bomber Darcy Parish, Greater Western Sydney gun Lachie Whitfield and this year's possible No.1 pick Sam Walsh in winning the honour.

Young is a half-back from the Dandenong Stingrays who also played for Vic Country at this year's under-18 carnival.

He captained the NAB AFL Academy in its game in New Zealand in April earlier this year and is seen as a part of the top group of prospects in the 2019 pool.

The scholarship assists in the development and education of young players and was introduced in 1989.

NAB AFL Academy head coach and former Brisbane Lions star Luke Power said Young possessed some appealing attributes.

"Hayden knows how to read the ball when it comes into the backline and has the ability to intercept the ball," Power said.

"Other features of his game are his recovery in contests, left-footed kicking and decision making off the half-back line."

Young will feature in the NAB All Stars clash of under-17s prospects on Grand Final morning at the MCG in a curtain-raiser to the AFL premiership decider.

The game will be streamed live on AFL.com.au.
