GEELONG midfielder Tim Kelly is “not keen” on joining Fremantle despite requesting a trade home to Perth.

The runner-up best and fairest made his trade request public today, nominating West Coast as his destination of choice.

The Cats have however indicated they may hold Kelly to his contract, which runs through to the end of next season, or ship him to the Dockers if they presented a better offer.

Kelly’s manager Anthony van der Wielen, speaking on Trade Radio, said the focus at this stage was getting home and joining the reigning premiers rather than their Ross Lyon-coached cross-town rivals.

“That’s going to be up to Tim at the end of the day,” he said.

“He’s certainly suggested that he would look at going to the West Coast Eagles. He’s not keen on going to Fremantle at this stage.

“That could all change but at this stage definitely want to try and focus on getting home to West Coast.

Van der Wielen said they understood Kelly was under contract, so would have to wait and see once trade period got underway on Monday.

“We’ve had some pretty good discussions about it, (Geelong) understand Tim’s situation,” he said.

“We’ve just respectfully asked: will they explore the opportunity if it comes up?

“We certainly knew that both Fremantle and West Coast would put his name on the table next week, so we just thought we would like to see what can happen.

“If it’s possible that we can get Tim home he would love to play at the West Coast Eagles.”

“Pressures at home with three children under the age of three, twins, and all sorts of thigns that have happened in the last 12 months of his life just means that it’s pretty lean for him living in Geelong.

“Life would be a lot easier if he was back at home.”

Fremantle chief executive and acting list manager Steve Rosich said the Dockers had talked with Kelly’s management and Geelong about the possibility of playing in purple next season.

“We have been told that he’s keen to return to WA, and his first preference is West Coast,” he said.

“But again, you’re negligent if you don’t explore all these possibilities. We have had some preliminary conversations with Geelong, and we’ll see what transpires with that over the next week or two.”
