The two Inter Dominion favourites face horror draws in the second round of heats at Ballarat on Tuesday night.

Tiger Tara, the $4.50 final favourite with TAB, and $5 second elect Cruz Bromac will start from wide back row draws over the sprint trip at Ballarat.

Tiger Tara, who stormed home for a luckless third in his opening round heat, faces a big ask with major rivals Wrappers Delight (gate one), San Carlo (six), Maximan (eight) and Spankem (nine) all drawn better in his heat.

“I’m not worried. The horse is well, I was thrilled with his (first) heat run and he’s good enough to do some work if he has to,” trainer Kevin Pizzuto said. “If we win this heat it’s a bonus, he’s here to win the final.”

Wrappers Delight is $1.60 to win the heat from San Carlo ($4.80) and Tiger Tara ($5). Maximan and Spankem are $9 shots.

Cruz Bromac, who won easily in the fastest of the opening night heats, looks remarkably short from gate 11 at Ballarat, but it is the weakest of the three pacing heats on the night.

Another opening night heat winner, WA’s Galactic Star, fared even worse against Cruz Bromac with gate 12.

One-time final favourite Let It Ride is in serious danger of not making the final after a lacklustre seventh on opening night and drawing outside the back (gate 12).

In contrast, emerging Kiwi four-year-old Im Pats Delight, who ran a terrific second to Spankem on night one, is drawn perfectly in gate two. He’s the TAB’s $1.65 favourite.

The wildcard in that heat could be NSW speedster Joes Star Of Mia, who could blast to the front from gate three and is a sub-1min50sec mile winner at Menangle this season.

Much interest will centre on star Victorian pacer Shadow Sax over the next 24 hours after he was found to be lame following a below par opening night run.

Shadow Sax needs to pass a vet check to be allowed to compete at Ballarat and, if he does, faces an awful outside front row draw (gate seven).

In the trotting series, the two big guns — Tornado Valley and Speeding Spur — clash at Ballarat.

Both won their heats impressively on night one and the Kiwi Speeding Spur has the better draw — gate five compared to seven for Tornado Valley — at Ballarat.
