No. 6 Georgia upset No. 2 Auburn 28-7 in the SEC championship game Saturday, after falling behind early in the first quarter.

The Bulldogs scored 28 unanswered to seal the victory, using a combination of offense, defense and special teams to stifle Auburn. Georgia fell 40-17 to Auburn less than a month ago, but bullied its way to victory Saturday.

Here are three takeaways from Georgia's win:

1. Georgia's defense/special teams proved the difference

The Bulldogs fell behind early after allowing a first-quarter touchdown, but they never let Auburn back on the scoreboard. Georgia forced two Auburn turnovers (both fumbles), while also blocking a Tigers field goal attempt. Auburn has had three field goals blocked this season, which tied Old Dominion for the most in FBS.

In true SEC fashion, the game was void of any real offense, but Georgia's defense was entertaining to watch, closing down receivers and stifling running backs.

2. Georgia's balanced offense likely led them into playoff

Nothing is guaranteed — especially when trying to predict college football playoff teams — but the Bulldogs likely just punched their ticket into the playoff by claiming the coveted SEC crown. Quarterback Jake Fromm completed 16 of 22 passes for 183 yards and two touchdowns, managing the game with aplomb.

On the ground, D'Andre Swift rushed for 88 yards and a touchdown, while Nick Chubb added 77 yards. In the process, Chubb passed Kevin Faulk and Darren McFadden for second place on the SEC rushing list, trailing only Herschel Walker.

Auburn now has three losses, so it's out of the running. Georgia should be safely in, but Alabama is now lurking, too.

3. The only rankings that matter are the final ones

Auburn entered the game sitting pretty, second in the rankings, a win likely sending them to the top spot. But after a strong first quarter, the Tigers turned in a lackluster performance which now likely has them settling for a New Years Six Bowl game.

Many found Auburn's rise to No. 2 controversial even before this week because it had two losses. The Tigers' loss further muddles an already crowded race for the four playoff bids, which could now see two SEC teams playing, neither being Auburn
