THOUSANDS of Chelsea fans turned out at the WACA tonight, braving the wet weather to watch the team train ahead of Monday night’s clash against Perth Glory at Optus Stadium.

Fans dressed in blue and white cheered from the stands as the team ran onto the field for the first time in Perth in more than 40 years.

Lifelong fans and members of the Perth Chelsea Supporters Club Dave and Heather Clare said they never missed watching their team play.

“We moved to Australia 11 years ago from the UK, but we haven’t let that stop us watching the games, no matter how late they are on,” Mrs Clare said.

“We’re really excited they are in Perth and we are keen to see them play on Monday.”

Record crowds of more than 50,000 people are expected at the game.

David McEwen will be taking his two children to the game on Monday night – one of which was named after the club.

His son Jarius (11) has inherited his father’s love of the team and said he was eager to see them “beat the glory”.

“I’ve been a fan since I was born. I saw them play in England in 2015,” he said.

“I can’t wait to see them on Monday.”
