Tamim Iqbal, the seasoned opener, has requested for rest during the upcoming one-off Test against Afghanistan and the T20I tri-nation rubber, an official from Bangladesh Cricket Board said.

Bangladesh will host the tri-series from September 13 to 24, and the tournament will begin after the home team's lone Test match against Afghanistan, to be played between September 5 and 9 in Chittagong. Zimbabwe, who were recently suspended by the International Cricket Council, will be making their first appearance in international cricket since the sanction was imposed on July 18.

Meanwhile, Tamim, who has been going through a rough patch in the recent past, requested the BCB not to consider him for the upcoming assignments at home, as he wished to take some rest during the aforementioned period.

''We have received a letter from Tamim in this regard [related to taking rest for the upcoming home series],'' BCB's cricket operation chairman Akram Khan confirmed to Cricbuzz on Saturday (August 10). ''We will take a decision about it after the Eid vacation," he added.

Tamim had a below-par outing in the just-concluded three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka, where he accumulated only 21 runs. He also couldn't make an impact in the World Cup, scoring just one fifty and ended up with 235 runs from eight innings at an average of 29.37.
