Sydney captain Belinda Snell has became the fourth highest scorer in WNBL history but she had little reason to celebrate as the Flames’ losing streak hit eight games on Sunday.

After five close calls in their previous seven losses, the Flames were again pipped at the post, this time by a Bendigo Spirit side sitting in the top three on the ladder.

Despite trailing by three points with two minutes to go, Bendigo took the match 66-64 to leave the Flames without a single win this season.

It was a devastating road loss for the Flames who lead Bendigo by as much as 10 points in the match.

“That last two minutes we missed every shot or made a turnover when we had the ball. So close again,” said club general manager and assistant coach Karen Dalton.

Dalton said the string of close losses has affected the confidence of players, with the three-week sidelining of Tahlia Tupaea with a concussion another negative.

“It’s back to the drawing board for another shot at them next weekend,” Dalton said.

Snell surpassed Jessica Bibby (4619) on the all-time scorers list when she nailed a three-pointer early in the match.

Snell ended the match with 13 points, six rebounds and three assists.

Brittany Smart top-scored for the Flames with 17 with Alex Wilson chipping in 16 and four assists.

Best for Bendigo was Nadine Payne with 14 points.

The Flames lead 17-16 at the first break and left the court up 32-26 at halftime.

Bendigo put themselves back in the game with an outstanding third period where they outscored the visitors 21-15 to see the match locked up at three-quarter time.
