SYDNEY FC marquee Siem De Jong is out of the FFA Cup final after picking up an injury in the Sydney derby at the SCG on Saturday night.

The Dutchman came off the bench and lasted just over 20 minutes before he hurt his hamstring and limped off the pitch.

It appeared yet another chapter in the heartbreaking history of the new signing, who has been plagued by a range of injuries throughout his senior career.

But according to coach Steve Corica, the issue may not be as bad as first feared.

“I think a low grade strain, of the hamstring,” coach Steve Corica said in his post-match press conference.

“But I’d say he’d be out of the Cup on Tuesday. That was the point, we put him on the bench in the first place to rest him, not give him 90 minutes because I wanted him to be fresh on Tuesday night for the Cup unfortunately it didn’t work out that way.”

De Jong has a history of hamstring complaints but the Sky Blues are hopeful this latest injury won’t keep him out long term.

“The physios say a low grade strain so hopefully that’s the way. Its hard to tell right now but tomorrow we’ll have a better idea,” Corica added.

While the marquee man is a big loss for Sydney ahead of the final against Adelaide United, they will welcome back young star Danny De Silva from injury for the match - although its unlear if he’ll start.

“Danny will be available on Tuesday, whether he starts I’m not so sure yet…. He’ll be involved Danny, he’s looking good at training and I’m looking forward to having him back.”
