The Adelaide Strikers kicked off the 2018/19 Big Bash League with a bang on Wednesday night, providing Brisbane Heat with a lesson of what the tournament has to offer this season.

Some players showcased their talents and exceeded expectations, while others were left with lots to prove in upcoming matches.

With SuperCoaches getting a first glimpse at what players have to offer, the performances of each player could impact how individuals alter their teams for next round.

Let’s take a closer look at some key performances:

STUDS
Alex Carey
Carey showed his batting talent in making light work of the run chase. The Australian short-form wicketkeeper scored 70 from 46 balls, smashing four balls over the fence and helping march Adelaide to an easy win.

Rashid Khan
The international spinner was the leader of the bowling team with his standout game. He shocked the Heat’s attack in taking 3/19.

Matthew Short
Rashid’s spin partner also contributed to the successful bowling attack of the Strikers, ending with 2/14. Short also added with the bat, scoring 13 runs before being caught behind after 18 balls. Keep an eye out for him as a handy all-rounder for BBL SuperCoach teams.

Mujeeb Ur Rahman
Already the youngest player to take the field in a BBL match, Rahman broke another record by notching the highest score ever (27) by a No. 11 to contribute to a 45 run final wicket partnership with Jimmy Peirson. Mujeeb is a good cheapie to add to your team as he is also a talented bowler.

DUDS
Brendon McCullum
The former New Zealand captain was a disappointment, smashing a boundary off the first ball of the game, but getting out the following delivery. His poor performance let many BBL SuperCoach players down, especially if selected as captain. However, the positive is that his team plays two matches in round one, giving him the chance to make up for it and score more points.

Chris Lynn
Lynn was the top scorer for his side with 33, but his batting still fell short considering the position his team were in. Lynn himself was not impressed with his performance, especially following the early exit of his captain.

CHEAPIE OF THE GAME
James Pattinson
The star cheapie managed 2/23 during his team’s run defence, having the lowest economy rate of all of the Heat’s bowlers.

Jimmy Peirson
Another good cheap inclusion into BBL SuperCoach teams. He was the last standing batsman for his side with 24 runs and showed his crafted wicketkeeping skills during his side’s defence. He can be used as a batsman or wicketkeeper in your team.

HARDLUCK STORY
Mitchell Swepson
Swepson finished with 1/27 but had plenty go against him. In the 10th over, there was a possible run out opportunity from his bowling but Short dived and made his ground. In his following over there were THREE possible chances. Firstly, an LBW shout on Short was controversially given not out. He then beat the bat before ending the over with a dropped catch. It was a strong bowling performance from Swepson with little result for him unfortunately.
