Steve Austin, Hulk Hogan & More Coming to WWE's Raw Reunion Show
WWE announces a Raw Reunion special for next Monday night, with "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, Hulk Hogan, and more legends set to make an appearance. If there's one thing professional wrestling fans enjoy a good dose of, it's nostalgia for the great matches, moments, and performers of the past. While many would argue that WWE indulges in nostalgia more often than it should, it can't be denied that a burst of it every now and again can please both new and longtime wrestling fans.
More bluntly, it's also no secret that WWE's TV ratings are in a major slump as of late, and their live attendance for events is way down. While big money TV rights deals, merchandise sales, and the continued success of the WWE Network streaming service help ensure that WWE remains a profit machine, the recent hiring of Paul Heyman and Eric Bischoff as new creative overseers of Raw and SmackDown proves that management is fully aware the company isn't doing great right now. Throwing a big reunion bash with lots of past greats will hopefully increase both ratings and general interest, at least for a week.
With all that in mind, WWE's Raw Reunion, which it's boasting will be the largest such nostalgia fest in WWE history, has been announced for next Monday, July 22. A large list of names has already been confirmed for the event, headlined by arguably the two biggest WWE stars of all time, 1980s patriotic hero Hulk Hogan and 1990s badass antihero "Stone Cold" Steve Austin. Check out WWE's promos for the event below.
As revealed in the above promo, Austin and Hogan will be joined at WWE Raw Reunion by many other huge names from years past. This includes "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair, Olympic gold medalist Kurt Angle, DX founder Shawn Michaels, Jerry "The King" Lawler, Sgt. Slaughter, Christian (but curiously not Edge), "Million Dollar Man" Ted DiBiase, D-Von Dudley (sans Bubba Ray Dudley, currently signed to ROH), aforementioned SmackDown Executive Director Eric Bischoff, Scott Hall and Kevin Nash (billed as Razor Ramon and Diesel), Jimmy Hart, The Boogeyman, The Hurricane, and Santino Marella.
While that's certainly a lot of confirmed names, it likely won't be the end of the Raw Reunion guest list. For one, part-time wrestler and full-time WWE executive Triple H will likely appear, as likely will at least some members of the McMahon family. New Universal Champion Brock Lesnar might also be convinced to show up for the right price, and his advocate Paul Heyman would probably be in tow. Of course, the biggest stars WWE would no doubt most like to show up are The Rock and John Cena, but with their filming schedules, that seems unlikely. If one or both does though, the roof might just blow off Tampa, FL's Amalie Arena.
