When it comes to start-sit lineup questions in standard fantasy football leagues or making lineup picks for daily fantasy football contests, we always look toward stats, even as early as Week 4. But when do we have enough stats to really trust matchup trends?

There are a lot of charts on fantasy football points against out there, but they tend to be skewed early in the season when every team has a limited sample size. One bad game against a tough team or one great game against a bad team can be very misleading.

It's good news then, that Week 4 has arrived. A whole month gives you a better sense of every team's identity on both sides of the ball.

Week 4 rankings:
Quarterback | Running back | Wide receiver | Tight end | D/ST | Kicker

Week 4 also means byes are here, so the most important rule going forward is don't start players who aren't playing. Aaron Rodgers and Jordy Nelson are guaranteed to get you zero points this week.

As for who can get you points, here we go again...
Fantasy Football Week 4 Start 'em: Quarterback

Philip Rivers, Chargers (vs NO). This is a perfect matchup for what San Diego likes to do offensively. It can pound away with Melvin Gordon and set up big passes downfield for Rivers. The Saints can't stop anything anywhere. Giddyap.

DFS steal: Dak Prescott, Cowboys ($7,200 on FanDuel). Prescott is a better option for cash games this week because he allows you to load up nicely at RB and WR. He should meet his floor of 250 total yards and two combined TDs at San Francisco.

Four more: Blake Bortles, Jaguars (vs. IND in London), Andy Dalton, Bengals (vs. MIA), Kirk Cousins, Redskins (vs. CLE), Joe Flacco, Ravens (vs. OAK)

Fantasy Football Week 4 Sit 'em: Quarterback

Eli Manning, Giants (at MIN). Manning is trying to throw enough to match some of last year's numbers, but he's struggled a bit in reality and TDs aren't coming. It's impossible to trust the streaky one in a difficult prime-time road matchup against a nasty Vikings pass D.

Four more: Matt Ryan, Falcons (vs. CAR), Derek Carr, Raiders (at BAL), Jameis Winston, Buccaneers (vs. DEN), Tyrod Taylor, Bills (at NE)

Fantasy Football Week 4 Start 'em: Running back

Spencer Ware, Chiefs (at PIT). The Steelers' strength is stopping the run, but they had a lot of leaks last week against a similar offense from Philadelphia. They also are getting burned badly by backs doing work in the passing game. Ware is in line to get several touches at least one more time with Jamaal Charles (knee) still ailing.

DFS steal: Matt Jones, Redskins ($6,600 on FanDuel). Jones hasn't gotten massive volume, and Washington's rushing attack hasn't looked that good so far. Game flow should finally be the team's favor at home against a bad Browns team.

Four more: Isaiah Crowell, Browns (at WAS), Jordan Howard, Bears (vs. DET), Dwayne Washington, Lions (at CHI), Giovani Bernard, Bengals (vs. MIA)
Fantasy Football Week 4 Sit 'em: Running back

Jerick McKinnon, Vikings (vs. NYG). Adrian Peterson wasn't producing before he went down, and it was tied to Minnesota's offensive line woes. McKinnon inherited those as a timeshare back, and he faces a tricky Giants run D this week. Matt Asiata is also bound to cut into his touches more.

Four more: Christine Michael, Seahawks (at NYJ), Frank Gore, Colts (vs. JAX in London), T.J. Yeldon/Chris Ivory, Jaguars (vs. IND in London), All Dolphins (at CIN)/all Giants (at MIN)

Fantasy Football Week 4 Start 'em: Wide receiver

Steve Smith Sr., Ravens (vs. OAK). He had no problems dropping the equivalent of "Ice up, son" on Jalen Ramsey last week, so it sets him up to go off for Baltimore in an even more regular role against a shaky Oakland secondary. He and Mike Wallace are both good WR3 starts.

DFS steal: Travis Benjamin, Chargers ($6,600 on FanDuel). There's no question that you're putting in Benjamin wherever you can at this price. He was quiet in Indy, but he can race out to a big game on the Saints.

Four more: Emmanuel Sanders, DEN (at TB), Tyrell Williams, Chargers (vs. NO), Terrelle Pryor, Browns (at WAS), John Brown, ARI (vs. LA)
Fantasy Football Week 4 Sit 'em: Wide receiver

Brandon Marshall, Jets (vs. SEA). Marshall doesn't seem completely right with his lower extremity issues, and he looked more like a limited decoy despite getting regular targets in Kansas City. This week, he is starting down seeing a lot of Richard Sherman with Eric Decker not looking good with a shoulder injury. If you can and have an option, find a sleeper WR4 to play instead.

Four more: Julian Edelman, Patriots (vs. BUF), DeVante Parker, Dolphins (at CIN), Phillip Dorsett, Colts (vs. JAX in London), Tavon Austin, Rams (at ARI)

Fantasy Football Week 4 Start 'em: Tight end

Jason Witten, Cowboys (at SF). Witten wasn't needed too much against Chicago, as Dallas ran the ball at will. The 49ers are slightly better up front and at linebacker, but they still can have lapses in underneath coverage. Greg Olsen and Jimmy Graham set up Witten to keep the beat going.

DFS steal: Zach Miller, Bears ($5,000 on FanDuel). Miller scored twice on the Cowboys, showing immediate chemistry with Brian Hoyer. That's perfect right before a matchup against the Lions, who have given up the most TE touchdowns with Jack Doyle, Dwayne Allen, Delanie Walker and Richard Rodgers all finding the end zone against them. Miller is good for at least one more score with around 50 yards.

Four more: Kyle Rudolph, Vikings (vs. NYG), Dennis Pitta, Ravens (vs. OAK), Jimmy Graham, Seahawks (at NYJ), Coby Fleener, Saints (at SD)

WEEK 4 DFS: FD cash lineup | DK cash | FD GPP | DK GPP | Values | DFS lineup builder
Fantasy Football Week 4 Sit 'em: Tight end

Hunter Henry, Chargers (vs. NO). Sure, it sounds good for everything San Diego, and Henry can draw another start while Antonio Gates still works to get that hammy right. But because other things have come so easily, teams haven't' need to work to TEs much against the Saints.

Four more: Gary Barnidge, Browns (at WAS), Cameron Brate (vs. DEN), Jesse James, Steelers (vs. KC), Martellus Bennett, Patriots (vs. BUF)

Fantasy Football Week 4 Start 'em: Defense

Texans (vs. TEN). You might want to fade them hard with no J.J. Watt (back), but if you look at them as a streamer with other good playmakers at home against a mistake-filled Marcus Mariota, you should definitely want to play them.

DFS steal: Redskins ($4,600 on FanDuel). Washington's D played rather well in forcing turnovers from the Giants, and now it draws Cody Kessler. It would be an even juicier matchup had RGIII returned to start against the Redskins, but, hey, you'll take a team that's also easily available on your standard league waiver wire.

Four more: Panthers (at ATL), Bengals (vs. MIA), Patriots (vs. BUF), Jets (vs. SEA)

Fantasy Football Week 4 Sit 'em: Defense

Chiefs (at PIT). Don't go chasing the six-pick game Kansas City posted against a pretty good Jets passing game. It's a different story on the road on Sunday night against a Steelers' offense that will rev up after doing nothing in Philadelphia. Le'Veon Bell is an ominous sound
