Slater, Duckett centuries give Nottinghamshire strong start

SOUTH GROUP

Kent vs Middlesex, Canterbury

Only 9.3 overs were possible in the Bob Willis Trophy game at the St Lawrence Ground. Asked to bat, Middlesex managed 22 runs for the loss of one wicket, before heavy rain forced early Stumps. Matt Milnes got rid of Max Holden early while Sam Robson scored an unbeaten 17. Middlesex are currently placed third in the South Group, while Kent are second.

Hampshire vs Surrey, Arundel

Despite only 25 overs being bowled in Arundel, Hampshire used the limited time effectively as they left Surrey five down, with Ian Holland bagging four wickets. Opting to bat, Surrey were left reeling under an impressive spell from Holland and were reduced to 36 for 5. Mark Stoneman (21) was the top scorer among the top five batsmen before No. 7 Laurie Evans came to Surrey's rescue with an unbeaten 39 that helped the team to 79 for 5 when play was called off for bad light. Surrey are currently at the bottom of the South Group table while Hampshire are placed fourth.

Sussex vs Essex, Hove

Philip Salt scored a half-century during the curtailed opening day at the County Ground in Hove, with only 30 overs of play possible. Asked to bat, Salt and Tom Haines added 38 for the opening wicket before the latter fell to James Porter. During a 43-run partnership with Harry Finch, Salt brought up his fifty but fell soon after to Porter. Finch and Tom Clark were unbeaten when rain forced early Stumps with Sussex on 93 for 2. Essex currently lead the South Group table while Sussex are fifth.

CENTRAL GROUP

Glamorgan vs Gloucestershire, Cardiff

The opening day of the clash was abandoned without a ball being bowled in Cardiff, due to rain. Even the toss didn't take place.

Northamptonshire vs Worcestershire, Northampton

Only 37.5 overs of play was possible in Northampton as Worcestershire were reduced to 93 for 5 after being put in to bat. After losing Jack Libby for a duck, Daryl Mitchell and Thomas fell bide in some time in the middle without scoring too much. However, Nathan Buck's triple strike proved critical on a rain-marred day when the hosts dominated.

Hampshire vs Surrey, Arundel

Ian Holland bagged four wickets to leave Surrey reeling at 79 for 5 on the opening day, where only 24.2 overs of play was possible due to rain interruption. The pacer bagged all his four wickets within the first 10 overs to leave the visitors tottering at 36 for 5 after they elected to bat. Laurie Evans's counter-attacking unbeaten 39 helped them push the score to respectability at stumps on the opening day.

NORTH GROUP

Yorkshire vs Derbyshire, Leeds

Dawid Malan's 145 not out helped Yorkshire to 280/4 at stumps on Day 1 after they were sent in to bat. The hosts were in a bit of trouble at 40/2 early on, having seen the back of both Tom Kohler-Cadmore and Jonny Bairstow but a 66-run third-wicket stand helped them build up to the eventual stand of 174* for the fifth wicket between Malan and Jonathan Tattersall, who's batting on 64*.

Brief Scores: Yorkshire 280/4 (Dawid Malan 145*, Jonathan Tattersall 64*; Michael Cohen 2-61) vs Derbyshire.

Lancashire vs Nottinghamshire, Nottingham

Sent in to bat, Nottinghamshire rode on the back of centuries from Ben Slater (111*) and Ben Duckett (116) to stack up 268/2 by stumps on Day 1. Haseeb Hameed chipped in with 22 in the 78-run opening stand with Slater, and Duckett took it over from there, forging a 178-run stand. Duckett fell towards the end of the day to Tom Bailey (1-55) though.

Durham vs Leicestershire, Chester-le-Street

David Bedingham's 96 stood out in Durham's effort at the Riverside Ground where they were asked to bat first. They lost Sean Dickson and Cameron Steel for only 17 runs before Alex Lees (62*) was joined by Bedingham for a 159-run stand for the third wicket, which was broken by Tom Taylor in what turned out to be the last over of the day. Only 52 overs were possible on a rain-curtailed day.
