Sri Lanka Cricket confirmed the tour of Pakistan will go ahead as scheduled after assurances from the Pakistan government on Thursday (September 19).

The board had sought assistance from the Sri Lankan government to conduct a reassessment of the security situation in Pakistan ahead of the team's scheduled limited-overs tour to the country later in September after receiving "reliable information of a possible terrorist threat" on the Sri Lankan team while in Pakistan.

"The Major General (Rtd.) J. R. Kulathunga, National Intelligence Head, on behalf of the Secretary of the Ministry of Defense of Sri Lanka confirmed that no information has been received by the Ministry of Defence through any Intelligence Agency indicating a threat to the Sri Lanka National Team or to the said tour," SLC said in a release. "It also said, no information has been received by the High Commission of Sri Lanka in Pakistan, indicating a threat to the Sri Lanka National Team or to the said tour."

Sri Lanka are scheduled to play three ODIs in Karachi, followed by as many T20Is in Lahore between September 27 and October 9. As many as ten players have opted out of the tour including the likes of Lasith Malinga and Angelo Mathews.

Lahiru Thirimanne will lead an inexperienced side during the tour.
