Sri Lanka spinner Akila Dananjaya has been suspended from bowling in international cricket for a year by the ICC, after his bowling action was found to be illegal.

He was reported during the first Test against New Zealand in Galle from 14-18 August. He then went through an independent assessment on his bowling action in Chennai on August 29, and results of the test noted that he wasn't bowling with a legal action.

This is the second suspension for Dananjaya with the first coming into effect in December last year after he was reported after the Galle Test against England. He was then cleared to bowl in February and was included in Sri Lanka's squad for the five-match ODI series in South Africa.

As this is a second report on Dananjaya's action, he has been suspended from bowling in international cricket for a duration of 12 months. Dananjaya can approach the ICC for a review of his bowling action after the expiry of the aforementioned period.

He has played six Tests, 36 ODIs and 22 T20Is with 106 international wickets across formats. His last appearance was against New Zealand in the T20I clash in Pallekele before he opted out of the tour of Pakistan.
