The United States women's national team used three quick-fire goals early in the second half to roll to a 4-1 win over Mexico in Thursday's international friendly clash.

Mallory Pugh gave the U.S. an early lead, finishing off a Megan Rapinoe ball in the sixth minute to make it 1-0.

But Mexico was not to be easily overrun.

Despite consistent attacking pressure from the USA, the visiting side stayed organized and strong at the back throughout the rest of the first half and the game went to the break with the USWNT still holding a single-goal advantage.

That would all change early in the second half when Alex Morgan and Carli Lloyd combined to score three goals in quick succession.

Morgan got the onslaught rolling in the 50th minute when she earned a penalty and then put it away herself to make it 2-0 in favor of the U.S.
Two minutes later Mexico was punished again, with Morgan's left-footed finish pinging off the inside of the post and in to put the game to bed.

Lloyd was apparently not content with the lead, however, and added a fourth for the U.S. just a minute later with a left-footed strike of her own.

Well that really escalated quickly...

Despite the sudden rush of the goals, Mexico didn't lay down.
The visiting side pulled one back with a lovely chip from Katie Johnson. .

Unfortunately for Johnson and her side, it was little more than a consolation as the U.S. cruised to a comfortable win.
Lloyd's strike left her sitting on 99 career goals for the U.S., while Pugh's goal was her team-leading fourth of 2018
