FORMER Socceroos and A-League defender Sasa Ognenovski has joined the party when it comes to criticising the VAR.

The controversial technology stole the headlines once again this weekend, with the Sydney derby drama taking centre stage.

On The A-League Hour, Adam Peacock, Mark Bosnich and Ognenovski blasted the VAR, saying that it’s turning fans away.

“We’re talking about things we shouldn’t talk about,” said Ognenovski.

“Every time a game is refereed well, we don’t talk about it.

“We are talking about the referees like they’re the ones attracting the people to the ground.

“This is another decision that has changed the course of the game! 2-1 in a derby or in any game is a different proposition.

“We saw it at Victory and Perth, they came from 2-0 down to 2-2 in the end and yes they got sloppy in the end and conceded a goal but it’s changing the course of games and I can’t understand why we’d have the technology in place and still get decisions wrong.”

The panel discussed an incident from the 2017/18 A-League season between Sydney FC and Perth Glory where former Sky Blues striker Bobo was clearly in an offside position and interfered with play.

“There’s Bobo in an offside position,” said former Premier League shot stopper Bosnich.

“Now this is where fans are getting really upset because in that instance Bobo’s clearly in an offside position and in this instance he makes a play towards the ball and holds the defender off.

“Now it could be argued that he is holding his position (similar to Sotorio for WSW).”

Adam Peacock added: “There’s moments of contention in a game, there’s the point, none of this is clear cut, all of us have got opinions about it.”

“The referees are getting involved in things that aren’t clear cut.”

The failure of the controversial technology has undoubtedly put a huge magnifying glass on the referees themselves, causing everyone to question their jugdement which ultimately brings the league itself into disrepute.

“You see how we just had a bit of a debate about the Bobo thing, and rightly so because this is a massive case,” said Bosnich.

“We probably had a lesser debate about the Sotirio thing because were all in agreeance.

“But under the whole umbrella of the VAR there are two very important words — ‘clear’ and ‘obvious’.

“Were they clear and obvious? Definitely not on Saturday and Bobo’s is debatable.

“This is what’s driving people up the wall because you’ve got a TV to be able to do it all.”
