SAM Kerr has been left off the shortlist for FIFA’s player of the year award once again.

The Matildas star has failed to make the final three in the running for the best women’s player accolade, missing out to five-time Brazilian winner Marta, Lyon’s Norwegian striker Ada Hegerberg and German midfielder Dzsenifer Marozsan.

This is Kerr’s second nomination for the award, but like last year she has once again been snubbed by football’s leading organisation.

Despite coming up short in FIFA’s eyes, the 24-year-old has had another out outstanding season for both club and country.

The Western Australian was awarded the NWSL Golden Boot and MVP award and currently sits top of the all-time NWSL goalscoring chart.

She also became the fourth Aussie to win the 2017 AFC Women’s Player of the Year award last year, yet she was still somehow overlooked for FIFA’s prestigious award.

The results are made up from votes by national team coaches, team captains, journalists and fans, with Matildas coach Alen Stajcic also missing out on the final cut, despite making the top 10 nominees for Best Women’s Coach.

He took the Matildas to their highest ever FIFA ranking of fourth in 2017 and they still remain in the top 10 after the latest release.

Despite helping the Matildas finish runners-up in the Asian Cup, Stajcic was overlooked in preference of Japan boss Asako Takakura, Lyon manager Reynold Pedros and Netherlands coach Sarina Wiegman.

All award winners will be announced at The Best FIFA Football Awards show on September 24 in London.
