Australia Women registered an emphatic 157-run win against Sri Lanka Women on Saturday (October 5) in Brisbane. After setting a target of 282 for the visitors, a collective effort by the Australian bowlers helped them wipe up Sri Lanka for a paltry score of 124. With this victory, they also inflicted the fourth straight loss on Sri Lanka in the past one week, including the T20Is.

Following the match, Jess Jonassen spoke about the highlights of the match and the performances which helped them take a 1-0 lead in the 3-match ODI series. Having elected to bat first on a good surface, Haynes gave them a decent start., while captain Meg Lanning's aggressive knock of 73(66) laid the platform for the hosts. Regarding Lanning's innings, Jonassen said, "I think Meg (Lanning) set the tone at the halfway mark. We had a job to do with the ball, we just had to hit the right areas and use our variations."

Ellyse Perry got the first wicket of the innings, whereas Tayla Vlaeminck, Ashleigh Gardner and Jess Jonassen herself bagged two wickets each as they defended the total without breaking a sweat. "We got some great versatility in the bowling group, we've got almost every type of bowler. Everyone's clear about their roles within the bowling line-up and fortunately we have managed to click together," said the spinner on their collective effort in the match. "To learn from each other is what we've done well as a group over the last few years," Jonassen further added.

Jess claimed the wickets of Chamari Athapaththu (centurion of the first T20I) and Dilani Mandodara, and needs only three more scalps to reach the milestone of 100 wickets in ODIs. "It'll be very special, joining a pretty elite club. I never dreamed that it'll ever actual happen. Hopefully I can get three wickets in the next two games and bring that milestone up, here at home," Jess accepted.

The Australian team has plenty of talent in the squad and it's the competition between the players that has helped them improve as a team over the last few years. Jonassen regarding that said, "I think over the last few years the competition for spots has been one of our greatest strengths as a team. The values we want to live by as a team is all about bringing the best out of yourself and best out of each other."

Australia Women face Sri Lanka Women next on Monday (October 7), whereas they'll play the final match of the series on Wednesday.
