RON Quinton said the extra increase in prizemoney in Sydney was the main reason he raced Royal Celebration at Rosehill and not a Flemington.

“It’s unbelievable prizemoney, 58,500 to the winner and 38,500 in BOBS. It’s huge money,” he said.

“We could have taken a chance and went to Melbourne but they’ve to travel and learn to race that way of going.”

He also explained the luck involved in racing and there’s no doubt Royal Celebration’s connections are laughing all the way to the bank.

“I only had two-year-old’s that year. One cost $200,000 and is still trying to win and this bloke cost $38,000,” he said.

Royal Celebration is only three and has had less than 10 starts but has earned more than $260,000 in prizemoney.

Stewards did a random audit of jockey’s bags at Rosehill and Jennings’s phone was found in his bag, not switched on.

His last phone call, to his partner, was made at 12.21pm, more than an hour before he arrived on course. It was his first offence.

“The one day I forget to hand it in (and the bag is checked). I just forgot,” he said.

EXILARATES was battling it out for favouritism in the opening race at Rosehill but finished last behind stablemate Kiamichi.

Jockey Rachel King said the horse had excuses.

“She tried to do it on one breath,” King said. “Right on the line she let out a big gasp of air and you can’t do it like that. It meant she couldn’t run it out.”

YOU don’t normally see at horse wearing the Magic Bloodstock silks struggle to win as a $1.30 chance but it wasn’t Winx wearing them this time.

It was Sexy Eyes and she just got the job done. The punter who had $24,800 at $1.30 would have been feeling sick at one point when Velocita looked to have her measure.

IT was interesting to hear Tye Angland’s interview after riding Sexy Eyes to victory.

He explained how he was assessing all the runners in front of him at the 600m point then figuring out what to do on his mount.

A great insight and showed just how quickly jockeys have to make decisions in a race under pressure.

TEMPO was one of the things that beat favourite Chaussure at Rosehill according to Tye Angland after the $3.20 chance ran seventh behind Turnberry and never looked like a hope.

“The barrier and tempo beat him,” Angland said. “He got too far back and they didn’t go quick enough but he was strong late.”

THE Kosciusko form has held up well after the race’s inaugural winner Belflyer won impressively in an Open Handicap on the Sunshine Coast and it was a on Good 4 surface so he’s not just a mud-runner.

WINX now has to share the title of the world’s best horse after Cracksman joined her on top of the official list but the rankings aren’t really taken seriously by anyone in the industry.

Enable is currently ranked ninth. The rankings are a non-event.

WE were at Flemington on Tuesday and after the rain went away it became a great day.

I reckon the roar when the gates flew open in the Cup was about as loud as the one when The Everest field jumped but there were 43,000 more at the Cup.

AFTER seeing Marwan Koukash in Melbourne last week before is stayer Magic Circle ran in the Cup, Racing NSW will be hoping he has a runner in The Everest next year like he hopes. He’ll bring them a tonne of publicity.

Horses to follow: Sebrakate (only weight beat it), Sikhing Glory (improver), Sky Boy (next two starts)

Ones to sack: Phoneme (not up to them), Gitan (might need a break)

Ride of the day: Andrew Adkins on Dyslexic (calm and composed ride)

Quote of the day: “He did it with ease. He was waiting for them more than stopping so when he gets that spark and drive in him he’ll make a very nice horse,” Christian Reith about Sky Boy.
