Winger Arjen Robben is sidelined until next year after suffering a knee injury in Wednesday's 2-0 German Cup last-16 win at FC Augsburg.

Having put Bayern into an early lead in a game where Franck Ribéry returned from a rib injury, Robben was taken off after a collision with Augsburg goalkeeper Marwin Hitz left him with a deep wound in his right knee. With further tests to come, Robben is expected to be out for around six weeks, the club revealed on their website, making him unavailable for Tuesday's UEFA Champions League Group D decider with Manchester City FC and the FIFA Club World Cup the following week.

"Of course I'm really disappointed," said the 29-year-old Dutch international. "I've been feeling great and have been enjoying playing every game with the team. And then this. But I will return to fitness and will join the team in tackling the goals we set ourselves for the season."
