Richmond’s WA product Reece Conca has suffered a horrific leg injury which resulted in tonight’s game against Sydney being stopped for several moments and the defender being carted from the ground on a motorised stretcher.

Conca, playing his 100th game, was being tackled by Swans star Lance “Buddy” Franklin when his left was trapped under him and his ankle appeared to break.

The 25-year-old, originally from Perth, could be heard screaming in pain as he was attended to my medical staff.

Injury problems have riddled Conca since being taken with the No. 6 pick of the 2010 National Draft and he played only the first six games in Richmond’s premiership year in 2017. He had managed all 13 games so far this season.

Tigers players surrounded Conca to pass on their well-wishes and he received a standing ovation on his way off the ground - with the stricken player quick to respond.

The actions of everyone involved drew a stream of plaudits from social media.
