A young race car driver in the US has been left red faced after his awkward advance was rejected by a model live on television.

Noah Gragson had just secured top honours at the 51st Snowball Derby at Five Flags Speedway in Florida, the win coming courtesy of a brilliant restart with seven laps remaining to put him on course for the win.

But while the 20-year-old had all the right moves on the track, the young star found the the wall off it.

In pit lane Gragson was riding high but took his celebrations too far when he attempted to plant a kiss on the lips of the trophy girl who quickly recoiled, live on television.

Those on social media were quick to jump on the shocked driver’s cringeworthy moment to roast him.

Fellow racer Corey Corey LaJoie shared the fail on Twitter, calling it the “Swerve of the century” but congratulating him for taking the win.

Amateur racer Justin Bonsignore also took to Twitter to post: “Shooters shoot.... Congrats Noah Gragson on the win, not this epic fail!”

While some were quick to make fun, others described the move as disrespectful and uncalled for.

The evening did turn around for Gragson in the end, with the driver ending up with the model’s number - and the kiss he had sought.
