Matthew Renshaw and Joe Burns continued their strong recent form and did their hopes of a Test recall no harm with centuries in Queensland Premier Cricket on Sunday.

Since being dropped from the Australian Test side last month, Renshaw has slowly moved back into form in both the JLT Sheffield Shield and in Queensland's Premier Cricket competition.

The opener compiled a patient 89 for his state against Western Australia last week and has two centuries for Toombul already this season.

Sunday's knock of 101 came from 150 balls and will doubtless give the left-hander a shot of confidence as he aims to build his case for a Test recall via the JLT Sheffield Shield in coming weeks.

Renshaw has played 11 Tests for Australia, scoring one century and three 50s at an average of 33.47.

Burns meanwhile, was out for 19 on the Saturday but scored a quite remarkable 100 not out today, from just 54 balls.

The innings included 14 fours and five sixes as Norths reached 0-124 in 16 overs thanks to the Test hopeful's onslaught.

Prior to the weekend, Burns - who made 80no for Queensland last week against WA - had already hit a century and a double-century for his Premier side this summer.

In the same game, Bulls quick Billy Stanlake got through 12 overs on Saturday, taking 0-25.

The news wasn't so good for fellow Queensland state players Marnus Labuschagne and Sam Heazlett, with the duo out cheaply on Sunday in Queensland's Premier Cricket competition for Redlands against Western Suburbs.

Chasing a respectable 9-338 at Graceville Memorial Park, Labuschagne fell for six and Heazlett nine as Redlands were bundled out for 200.

Labuschagne did manage to claim two wickets with his leg-spin on Saturday, finishing with the respectable figures of 2-58 from 19 overs.

In Sydney over the weekend, all eyes were on the contest between David Warner's Randwick Petersham side and Steve Smith's Sutherland, but it was former Australian allrounder Shane Watson who stole the show at Coogee Oval.

Watson smashed five sixes on his way to a quickfire 63 from just 41 deliveries to overshadow Smith's patient knock of 48 (71 balls) in Sutherland's three-wicket win.

Warner made 13 with the bat as NSW youngsters Daniel Fallins and Austin Waugh combined to dismiss the former Australia opener.

Fellow NSW state player Nick Larkin was the star with the bat in Sydney on the weekend as he contributed a superb 138 for Sydney University in their 85-run triumph over UTS North Sydney.

Larkin's performance overshadowed handy knocks from Daniel Hughes (83 for Mosman) and NSW skipper Peter Nevill (64 for Eastern Suburbs).

In Western Australia, suspended Test player Cameron Bancroft was out for two as Willeton were thrashed at home by Perth.

Warriors player Josh Phillipe managed 60 with the bat for Scarborough, while former Australia allrounder Hilton Cartwright made 14 for South Perth against Joondalup.

Test captain Tim Paine and former Australia allrounder James Faulkner were both out for 48 in Hobart as University of Tasmania fell to a Gurinder Sandhu-inspired Kingborough at Kingston Twin Ovals.

Sandhu, who has performed well for Tasmania's Futures League side this season, picked up 6-69, before an unbeaten 65 from Shield batter Beau Webster ensured Kingborough were victorious.

Tasmania veteran George Bailey also starred on the weekend with the experienced batter scoring 129 in South Hobart Sandy Bay's comfortable victory over New Town.

Bailey has reached double figures just once from six knocks for Tasmania in the Shield this season, but did manage an unbeaten half-century when leading the PM's XI to victory over South Africa last month.
