There was a time when Bangladesh would have happily taken the results at the World Cup in which they defeated South Africa and humbled West Indies. But this is a new Bangladesh, a hungrier Bangladesh. Even the BCB has not taken it lightly. After the axing of Steve Rhodes yesterday, the chopping blade has now fallen on Courtney Walsh, the bowling coach.

Bangladesh Cricket Board said on Tuesday that they are not extending their contract with pace bowling coach Courtney Walsh that was coming to an end after the 2019 World Cup. This announcement came a day after BCB parted ways with head coach Steve Rhodes though his contract ran until the ICC World Twenty20 in 2020.

BCB said that they have decided to make a major reshuffle in the team management after analyzing their performances in the World Cup. "After the World Cup we sat and discussed the future of our team management. Even if they [supporting staff] want to continue, the board has the right to decide while similarly they have an option to decide even if the board wants to keep them. We have contracts with most of the coaching staff till this World Cup. We have decided to discontinue our contract with couple of them,'' BCB chief executive Nizamuddin Chowdhury told reporters at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium," BCB chief executive Nizamuddin Chowdhury said on Tuesday (July 9). "We had contract with Courtney Walsh until this World Cup and we are not continuing with him anymore."

In 2016 when Heath Streak departed, West Indian Walsh was given the charge of being the bowling coach of Bangladesh.

Chowdhury also added that they are not continuing with physio Thian Chandramohan while they are yet to decide about spin coach Sunil Joshi along with batting consultant Neil McKenzie and fielding coach Ryan Cook. He also added that they are hoping to finalise the head coach before the start of the Sri Lanka tour. "We are working on whom we will keep [among the coaching staff] for the future. We will take a decision in this regard at the end of this month when we will have a board meeting," he said.

"We will try to appoint a new head coach before the tour of Sri Lanka. We are looking for someone on a long term basis and we want someone who can plan for the Twenty20 World Cup and next World Cup. If we don't get then we will have to appoint a coach on an interim basis."
