RECALLED quick Peter Siddle has overtaken Merv Hughes to move to 13th on Australia’s all-time Test wicket-takers list.

Siddle took the 213th Test wicket of his career to leapfrog his fellow Victorian on Monday and he now has 12th placed Clarrie Grimmett in his sights. Grimmett took 216 wickets with his wristspin across his 37 Test career between 1925 and 1936.

Playing his first Test in two years, Siddle moved level with Hughes when he removed Mohammad Hafeez late on day one against Pakistan, and passed him early on day two by bowling nightwatchman Mohammad Abbas.

Siddle is playing his 63rd Test, while Hughes’ 212 wickets were taken from 53 matches.

“I’ve always dreamed of playing for Australia again in the last few years, but I’ve concentrated on just performing wherever I played,” Siddle said after play on Sunday.

“Today was a nice reward for the time I’ve put in off the park and all the other teams I’ve played for in the last 18 months, to get back out there and pull on the baggy green, and walk out there with those three guys starting their journey.”
