PERTH centre Angus Brandt is under a cloud for his team’s pre-season campaign after suffering a rolled ankle while on national duty last night.

Brandt hit the floor in agony after the setback, which came amid Australia’s comfortable win over Kazakhstan in Bendigo.

It comes at a less-than-ideal time for the Wildcats, who fly east to participate in the NBL’s pre-season blitz before exhibition games against NBA side Utah and Denver in the US.

Perth coach Trevor Gleeson said the club was yet to find out the extent of the injury as Brandt’s ankle remained swollen this morning.

“It looked bad when that replay came on,” Gleeson said.

“There were a couple of quick phone calls to our medical staff, making sure they’re on top of it and making sure we’re looking after it the best we can.

“He’ll get scans later on today and we’ll keep our fingers crossed it’s a good result.”

Brandt looms as a pivotal piece for Perth this season after an impressive 2017-18 campaign, with the arrival of NBA export Andrew Bogut at Sydney making the Wildcat’s role potentially even more important.

In better news for Perth, import Terrico White is set to take to the court in Wildcats colours for the first time at this week’s Blitz tournament.

Gleeson said it was unlikely White, a 196cm shooting guard who last played in South Korea, would have a minutes limit for the event.

“We’ll have a training run tomorrow, and once he ticks that (box) it’ll be full steam ahead,” Gleeson said.
