PERTH head coach Trevor Gleeson says the Bullets are “super talented’’ but the Wildcats plan to turn up the defensive heat to test the new-look Brisbane on Saturday.

The Wildcats sit on top of the NBL ladder after a hard-fought win over Adelaide and a 40-point thrashing of Illawarra in Round 1.

They are red-hot favourites to continue their perfect start to the 2018-19 NBL season when they host Brisbane at Perth Arena but Gleeson knows Perth cannot take the visitors lightly.

Brisbane beat the Wildcats the last time the teams met in Perth and have overhauled their roster by bringing in a host of Boomers representatives in the off-season.

The impressive win over New Zealand was followed up by a disjointed loss to Cairns which produced a hard edge at Bullets training this week in the build-up to the trek to the wild west.

Gleeson expects Brisbane to bring their best to Perth and said Bullets shooting guard Cameron Gliddon was the man to watch.

“They’ve got seven, eight players who have played on the national level either for the Boomers or the Tall Blacks so they are immensely talented out there,’’ he said.

“They had a really good win in New Zealand, probably a disappointing game against Cairns but they are super talented.

“Gliddon got pretty hot (29 points against New Zealand), they were active defensively, changing things up a lot so we expect the same thing again.

“When Gliddon gets his eye in, it’s lookout. (Jason) Cadee can shoot and (Stephen) Holt can shoot so they’ve got some scoring options and it’s really going to be a good challenge for us.

“We know they are quality opposition. If we relax any minute, they’ll take advantage of it.’’

But the Wildcats have won 78 out of 99 home games at Perth Arena for a reason.

They get in the face of visiting teams and stay there with relentless and physical defensive pressure, crash the boards and swing the ball around to their multiple offensive weapons.

With Brisbane having spent just a month together as a full squad, their fledgling combinations will be put under the blowtorch.

“You put them under pressure and see what evolves,’’ three-time NBL championship-winning coach Gleeson said.

“As a new team, they are still feeling each other out. A bit of disruption too with the national duties and players being away.

“We certainly want to bring that pressure out on the defensive end.’’
